Robinson for coal traffic and were built at Gorton Works between 1914 and 1917. Braking deficiencies resulted in the Class being reallocated to lighter mixed traffic duties, whereupon many sported the lined black GCR paintwork. 20 locomotives were produced in total, with the last  withdrawn in 1955.
