Presented here is a DJH Kit-Built model of class pioneer 'A. H. Peppercorn', finished in a matt LNER Apple Green livery, as the locomotive would have appeared when built on the eve of nationalisation. As with all DJH kits the model has been constructed of brass and cast metal components, capturing the impressive look of these machines wonderfully.
The Peppercorn A2 was a class of 15 locomotives built for express passenger work between 1947-1948. The locomotives provided an ideal replacement to the Gresley P2s which had at this point all been rebuilt by Thompson, creating a lack in motive power for the Edinburgh - Aberdeen route. Due to this power they were amongst the last multi-cylinder express locomotives still in use on BRs network. By 1966 all had been withdrawn from service with one locomotive 'Blue Peter' being preserved for preservation, which is now mainline operational.
