O Gauge Shark Ballast Brake Vans

Production of our O Gauge Shark ballast brake vans is currently on hold pending reassessment of market conditions. However, having completed much of the research and design work on these fascinating and long-lived vehicles, we hope to reactivate the project in the medium term. Pre-orders can still be made, with no deposit required.

A Brief History

A Brief History

Over 200 ‘Shark’ ballast brake vans were constructed from 1951. They were used across the country – often in the company of ‘Sealion’ and ‘Seacow’ hopper wagons – for ballast renewals and permanent way maintenance. ‘Sharks’ featured vacuum braking and interior fittings including a stove, seating and small desk – all of which will be featured on our models. Many survive today in preservation.
