No. 563 was the pioneer of the LMS 2P Class of locomotive designed in 1928 and was a post-grouping development of the Midland Railway 483 class. Designed by Henry Fowler, the class were built for light passenger work on the newly formed LMS network following the small engine policy in place at the time, featuring classic Derby design and fittings. '563' was built at Derby works in 1928 and lasted in service until 1962, when the remainder of the class was scrapped; none were preserved.
