Aster Gauge 1 Live Steam LNWR Precedent Class No. 5036 'Novelty' LMS Crimson

1 item left

Famous for the 'Races to the North', 'Novelty' was part of the LNWR Improved Precedent Class and sister locomotive to the famous 'Hardwick', designed by F. W. Webb. 158 of this class were built between 1887 and 1901, gaining the nickname 'Jumbos'. When passed into LMS ownership, they were given the classification of 1P.

Unfortunately (and in common with many pre-grouping designs) the rapid need for stronger motive power led to the withdrawal of all the Improved Precedent class engines by 1933. Only 'Hardwick' was preserved due to its historical significance of it's record-breaking speed run from Crewe to Carlisle achieving an average speed of 67.1mph.
