D1000 'Western Enterprise' was the first of the large hydraulic diesels to appear from Swindon in 1961. Like many of the Westerns it was to enjoy a relatively short life and despite its status as first in class it was withdrawn by 1974. Heljan's model, their ref 5296, is an excellent runner and has been relatively heavily weathered, reflecting the condition of the loco prior to re-painting in 1964.
