1 item left

Starting as the L&YR 'Ironclad' Class 25 locomotives built by Barton-Wright, this class of locomotive was rebuilt as a Class 23 saddle tank for shunting and short freight workings by John Aspinall. 230 were eventually rebuilt between 1891-1900. The class survived into BR ownership the last being withdrawn in 1964. One has been preserved due to it being sold into NCB use and was saved by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Trust, returning to steam in 2019.
