Built to a high quality standard from a Warren Shephard kit, these charming tank engines were designed for light passenger work by William Barton Wright. Built between 1877-1886 the class numbered 72 locomotives being put to work on Manchester - Leeds and Manchester - Hellifield services. The class, although successful, were quickly displayed by 4-4-0s and 2-4-2s so were subsequently withdrawn between 1901-1921, with non being preserved.
