The Norfolk & Western's 14 J Class steam engines entered service from 1941 and were the most powerful 4-8-4 locomotives ever built. Designed to haul prestigious passenger trains, notably between Norfolk (Virginia) and Cincinnati (Ohio), they led distinguished but short lives; all but one had been retired by 1959. No 611 was one of the last main-line steam locomotives to be built in US and sported the streamline casing applied to the final batch of these impressive beasts.

Condition Description	In very good condition overall. There are numerous small blemishes to the paint finish on the loco body and tender sides and a significant adhesive mark to one side of the tender. The rear directional lamp is loose in its housing and does not function.

Test Results	A very good runner overall, with occasional stutter at low speed due to momentary shorting of the metal brake gear coming into contact with the driving wheels. Minimum curve radius 6ft.
