1 item left

Designed by Henry Fowler and then built by Manchester's Beyer Peacock in 1927, the LMS Garratts where built to haul 1,450 long ton coal trains at a speed of around 25mph. Having an 2-6-0-0-6-2T wheel arrangement these locomotives where more than capable in power. The class, although successful overall had classic Midland design drawbacks such as inadequate axel boxes which would hot easily, making the machines maintenance heavy. Lasting 25 years in service the class was withdrawn between 1955-58 being replaced by the Riddles standard 9F.
