The Midland Railway's 1000 Class locomotives were introduced by Richard Deeley from 1905 and were a development of Samuel Jonhson's earlier compound engines. Fleet of foot, they found work on passenger trains across the region, from the Home Counties to North West England. This example No. 927 was part of the LMS built batch in 1927 and lasted in service until 1957, being allocated to Holbeck and Derby Sheds.
