Darstaed D24-ELZ-1B Finescale O Gauge BR (Ex-LNER) Thompson 'The Elizabethan' Set B, 6-Coach Set
Due to popular demand, we have made available a few Set A and Set B Elizabethan Coach sets, allowing those without the space for 11 coaches to not only run a smaller rake of coaches, but also add the Set B to it at a later date should you wish.
As with the full 11-car set, these smaller sets are available both with and without roller ball bearings.
We have extensively researched the coaches that form this set and have made all alterations necessary to the tooling and design to make them as close to real-life as possible.
The rake represents the London to Edinburgh service which ran from circa 1953 onwards in BR Crimson & Cream livery.
These coaches are not just standard Thompsons added together to create a large rake, instead, and due to it being a high-speed express service, they had their coach sides or 'fairings' extended over the solebars, to create a 'streamlined' appearance. Not only that, but the coaches were also fitted with pressure ventilation (to most, with the exception of the BG), and due to the extra weight 8' 6" heavyweight bogies.
We have modelled this rake based upon that seen in the British Transport Film 'The Elizabethan Express' and as was common, they mixed a couple of standard Thompson coaches in and among the 'streamlined' versions to make up a full train.
