Wonderfully constructed and finished to a high standard from a Modern Outline Kit, this unique example of Bulleid's wartime design features beautiful bespoke detail (such as copper piping) and excellent inside working valve gear. Completed with a ABC Gearbox, the model is an excellent runner and has received a lovely weathered finish to depict the locomotive in working condition.
A true cut down, cost saving wartime design, the Bulleid Q1 is instantly recognisable from other classes of British steam locomotive. First introduced in 1942, 40 of these machines were produced to fill the gap in the Southern Railways freight capabilities. The locomotives quickly earned the nicknames 'coffee pots' or 'ugly ducklings' due to their square appearance and lack of running boards.
