Built in 1902 by Samuel Waite Johnson, no. 1000 underwent many modifications during its working life. This model represents it as preserved in 1914 condition, after the engine was rebuilt to the Richard Deeley three-cylinder compound design (with enlarged boiler); this made the class easier to drive.
