Five-Inch Frolics, Thompson Temptation, and a 'Q' for Your Coal

A couple of weeks ago, we launched a ‘Rocket’ – of the 5-inch-Gauge variety – into your midst. When you start measuring things in inches (as opposed to millimetres) in the model railway world, you know they're getting big, and this prompted some discussion of how large we’re willing to go when it comes to buying model trains (try us!). It also reminded us that our electronics expert John is a seasoned five-incher. Weekends often see him saddled up behind his ‘Jinty’ or 'Standard 4', skillfully coaxing them around a demanding circuit. His focused expression is clearly a ruse to hide the fact that riding on a giant train-set through the lush countryside has to be extraordinary fun…

Over on the Ellis Clark Trains workbench, Neil’s been spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting his ‘loco of the week’. These are models that have usually been well built (with good running qualities) but that benefit from an hour or two under the deft hands and finishing touches of the Maestro. Looking over his shoulder this morning revealed a ‘Q6’ – a rare find in O Gauge and a great workhorse for anyone modelling North East England’s heavy coal trains.

And don’t forget our monthly offer, which for April sees O Gauge Thompsons on sale for just £169 each – but only until the 20th, so best get your skates on if you’d like to add some of these impressive coaches to your fleet!
