Black 5s Out in the Wild...and an Eastern Region Steam-Fest

It’s always satisfying to see our models in their natural habitat; when a thing in a box in a warehouse becomes a player on a stage in a story. We recently customised one of our Black 5s for our friends at the National Railway Museum, and this week she took to the demanding stage of their O Gauge layout. Under the gaze of hundreds, she’s performed flawlessly with a heavy rake of coaches. Not that we're surprised; some of her sisters have been out there for over two years doing excatly that. But our models are more than just a product reference to us; they’re individuals, and we love to hear about what they’re up to once they’ve ‘fledged’. So if you’ve any photos of your purchases at work, drop us a line, and we’ll make them famous!

An Ellis Clark Trains Black 5 hauling a rake of coaches on the National Railway Museum's O Gauge layout. The train is pictured passing through a station, with coal wagons in the siding and a tree-lined embankment in the background.

Back at base, the large-scale team have been shepherding a fantastic collection of O Gauge engines onto the website. It’a while since we saw quite so many top-spec kit-built models at once; if you’re in to LNER/BR steam, there’s probably something here for you –and they‘re making all the right noises with DCC sound chips and some rather nifty weathering. Both Evan and Rob needed their drool-buckets frequently replaced as they played with prepared the fleet for their new homes.

A collage of four kit-built O Gauge steam locos listed on Ellis Clark Trains. The engines represent both expresss passnger and freight locomotives.

Meanwhile, if scenes like these pique your interest, mosey on over to Clark Railworks for an update on what's been going on in smaller scales and a trip across the pond...
