Pre-Owned Finescale O Gauge
OO Gauge Projects
The Southern Railways 'V' class was designed by Richard Maunsell in 1930 and was essentially a cut-down version of the 'Lord Nelson' class able to operate on lines with restrictive loading gauges, such as from Tonbridge to Hastings.
The Schools class would become the most powerful 4-4-0 in Britain, with a British Railways classification of 5P. The locomotives featured three cylinders and used the fireboxes of the King Arthur class to fit the tighter loading gauges. All were withdrawn by 1962, with three being preserved.
